My first time to local outlet chain Mitsui at Tama Minami Osawa in Tokyo and first time to shop in Japan's new year sale. Train ride costs 390yen and around 35-40mins from Shinjuku via Keio line.

My fashionable winter cap 2835yen from Topkapi. Original 3150yen. Still expensive but I like the design.

Bought my first 2012 lucky bag from Prose Verse, a local fashion store that I'm not familiar with. 8400yen. 8 items in total, cannot see them because each bag was sealed. The last bag was in our hands so I made the purchase since it contains winter wear.

Ugly hairband... no thanks. Give to my friend's niece.

Nice orange stole until...

I found a mud stain on it... I thought it's brand new?

This design was ok at first, but on a later thought, it looks too hippy for me.

Gotemba Christmas Shopping

Friend is here so we went to Gotemba for some shopping. I bought a T-fal stirfry 28cm pan for 2800yen and cover for 2000yen. For my new apartment with kitchen :)

Also went to Fauchon to buy their bread and noticed that they sell chocolate and coffee too. Bought one dark chocolate 735yen and instant coffee 1050yen. Coffee wasn't impressive.

Bought 3 boxes of Godiva patisserie sets (1200yen/ea) as presents for my scholarship office and professor. Yummy yummy!

Gotemba Outlet shopping

I'd decided to start a section here on my Gotemba Outlet shopping trips since I go there like twice a year. Attempt to keep track of my spending and remind me not to spend too much money on a particular category or brand.

I skipped all the luxury brands in order to save money and time. Sayonara to Prada, Tods and Burberry, the boutiques that I always go in but never bought anything except for a pair of Tods shoes that I love dearly now.

I'd also learned to zoom into only clothes that are on special clearance discount and not buy any "latest" stock that has no further discount.

Was looking for an oven plate to grill my chicken and found this Made in Japan Cera-Cook at Franc Franc. The design and quality looks good and was on special sale at 2500yen. Not sure how much was the original price, but since it's made in Japan, it should be very good. Comes with mini recipe :)

Found this super mini weighing machine that was also on clearance sale @1980 yen and was enthusiastically looking forward to weigh myself but...

It doesn't work. I checked that the battery was connected and everything switched on, but the damn 0.0kg wouldn't show. Instead it showed some weird digits for 1 sec and disappeared. Damn... a faulty product. So I had no choice but to spend an expensive phone call to Franc Franc and ask what to do. Luckily, in a good service nation like Japan, the sales offered to deliver a brand new unit to my home to exchange for the faulty unit. FOC! So nice of them, will definitely buy more stuff from them in the future if I need anything.

Also bought these cooking tools to accumulate my bill to more than 5250 yen for a 5% further discount. They're a bit expensive, but good quality.

Bought some Godiva gift sets because they're clearing expiring soon products. Buy over 3000yen to get this cool ice bag. Not sure if I'll ever use it, but it's free, so I take.

Yummy patisserie inside~ Good to last me till end of next week :> Still pondering to have the other box of chocolate biscuits all to myself or give it away during christmas...hmm...

Went inside Lacoste outlet for the first time. Always missed it because I spent too much time digging at GAP. Found this really cute long sleeve shirt @3400yen, originally @8400yen.

I really like Lacoste design, it has a very elegant and designer look to it. But the sleeves are always too long and the prices too expensive for a student like me. But this hoodie was on special discount and I really love the patterns on its hood. Originally @14700yen, after discount is 7182yen. I think it's a good deal because I can wear this for spring and fall, plus bring it back to Singapore to shield office air-con.

Banana Republic here is really more expensive than US. Anyway, I found another special discount shirt that is nice to go over with one of my Uniqlo heatec garment. Originally sold at 5800yen, now 2610yen. Also a pair of socks at 504yen.

Was eying on a white sweater to add into my wardrobe and found this. Originally at 6800yen, now 4284yen.

Last but not least, my favorite cheap and good quality store GAP. This wool cardigan at 3923yen, originally 5900yen.

Before they had their new points structure, I had 2012 points and could redeem 1800 points for a $50 Isetan voucher. But now, without informing consumers, they changed the structure, making it seem as though we'll have more points, but in fact, raised the redemption benchmark.

Now even after paying more than $900 for air tickets, I have only 10985 points! Oh wait, isn't that much more than before? But hey, how many points do I need to redeem for that voucher? 10980!

So now I get more points but redeem less. You do the maths.

Fancl Mild Cleansing Oil is still the best

After trying so many different cleansing oil, none cleans better and easier than Fancl's MCO. I just threw away SK2's cleansing gel after failing to wash away my foundation thoroughly. Luckily it is just the sample size.

My skin seems to explode with oil after using Kose black mask. I guess I'll stop using it after the tube is done. So far I'm very pleased with Kingo Kingo, a Japanese brand which uses volcanic ash. It's actually a paste-like cream which you use the net to foam, then use it to cleanse the face. I find my skin less oily and pores reduced. You bet I'll continue to purchase this when I go Japan :)

Clarins Snow lotus doesn't work for me

I'm not sure if I'd followed the steps wrongly, but over the 2 weeks of using this product every night, it doesn't seem to improve my skin that much. The tone is slightly more even but my pores are made even bigger. The 2nd step mask feels too oily and thick for my oily combination skin.

I'm not sure if I want to stick it to the last, but it is a rather expensive program. I will not recommend this to people with oily and combination skin. Might be good for dry skin only.

I was a happy patron of this basement level 2 shop until today.
In the past, there were only 2 ladies (shown in above photo) attending the shop but managed to move the queue relatively fast.

TODAY HAS CHANGED!
I was just 6-7 people behind and I had to wait like 20-25mins for my turn! 2-3 times slower than before! On top of it, there were 4 China helpers, 2 times more than the past. But 2 times slower!?

At 6-6.30pm today, all 4 attendants took turns to either chat on their personal handphones, or via the shop's telephone. One was even resting behind sipping drink (okay nevermind, it is fine to take a rest), but does she have to pick her teeth and clean her mouth repeatedly in front of her mirror!? Excuse me, I do not see any plastic gloves for hygiene purpose... ...

So pancakes were cooked very slow because even the cook went off to chat on phone occasionally. I was so angry that I left just before my turn. 25mins for this bad service spoils my mood.

I WILL NEVER PATRON THE Ang Mo Kio Hub branch AGAIN!

I went to the Estee Lauder counter at Isetan Scotts to ask for an exchange. However I wasn't very well served. I was waiting for some time and trying out their cosmetics. When I finally made the decision to exchange the Idealist for the lipstick, lip liner, lip gloss and eyebrow pencil, the SA took some time to find the products.

Luckily Joanne asked me to check, and found out that the SA took another lip pencil color "pink writer" to replace my "rose writer". I was quite upset and angry that it was done discreetly hoping that we didn't notice the switch. We then continued to look for a replacement color and spent another 5-10mins on that and chose "Spice writer" (I think that was the name).

AND AGAIN, no stock!? Gosh, they wasted our time to try so much and in the end has no stock for it. GREAT, so I was so angry that I kept on tearing papers while waiting for the SA to call and ask if it was possible to reserve the rest of the products and wait for replenish stock. Luckily it can be arranged and we were there for 45mins testing and waiting. What a waste of time...

Anyway we headed down to Body Shop to use up my Wisma coupons to buy blotting paper. Wanted to buy Aloe vera but the SA recommended me to resume my previous skin care and let my skin heal naturally. Ok, so I switch back to my regular Kose lotion and spraying Evian facial spray often to keep skin moisturized and less itchy.

I see tiny tiny pimples (oil spots) at my eye bags now. I feel that the Suisse Programme eye gel is not working. Clarin's eye lift was much better :~(
Of course with insufficient sleep, even the best eye products won't be able to cure it.
Too bad I didn't purchase their eye lift during the 20% off sale...

I'm not sure if the seaweed wash is supposed to leave a "thin" veil of moisturizer or not. I just feel that I haven't washed them completely every time.

A Complain letter

Hello,

From my friend's recommendation, I recently made a purchase on Cellnique Pro Series "Pro Sebum Gel" to remove blackheads and whiteheads.

However I followed the instructions on the pink box which says
"PRO SEBUM GEL (min.3 pumps)"

This caused my skin to have small breakouts on the first day.
So I reduced it to 1pump on the following day.
My skin immediately felt better but I thought that I should be following the instructions of minimum 3 pumps.
Hence on the next day, which is today, I put on 2 pumps.
Once again my skin felt sticky and there seems to be excess serum all over my face.

I asked my friend if the instructions was very very wrong and she confirmed with me that just ONE pump is enough.
Not TWO, not THREE, but just ONCE.

It led me to believe that the instructions on the box was wrong and it should be
"PRO SEBUM GEL (max.3 pumps)"

Remarks:
Skin is now feeling very sticky. I realized that there's the Cellnique serum leftover when I dab my skin with wet hands. I asked Joanne if the Cellnique instruction was wrong. Because it says min.3 pumps, but I only used 2 pumps. She replied that it is indeed just 1 pump and it'll be enough.

NO WONDER I'm suffering from break outs ever since I started to use Cellnique!!!
My skin was good when I just used 1 pump. Damn. Never trust these instructions by non-international brand!

Remarks:
To my amazement, skin became especially good after applying Phytomer moisturizer! Thanks to it's oil controlling and absorption properties. $40 from the Luxasia sale.
However skin starts to feel "funky" and sticky after the Kose's sunblock. Glad that it's finishing within these few days then I'll switch to Clarins.

It's amazing!!! Now my skin is not oily compared to yesterday's experience. Phytomer oligopur works!!! But after 3 hours, my nose and cheek area started be a bit oily. I think I better get more oil paper...

Not sure why I still have pimples, big pores and oily skin. So I'm going to keep track of my skincare products to find out what I have to change.

Seaweed wash is good, can consider buying the toner and moisturizer (quite matte). Kose lotion feels good but doesn't solve my pore and blackhead problem so I'm going to stop buying it. Cellnique made my cheeks more oily than before and quite itchy! 2 days already and 8 more days to go. Not sure if Clarins day lotion is the culprit for the oiliness as well...sigh*

Using Kose Fasio Aqualive water to constantly moisturize and freshen the skin. It has some methol smell, different from Evian facial spray. It is also a bit more expensive. I think the frequent spray made my skin oily as well. Evian is better.

Remarks:
Massage Gel was very good, skin tone looks even after wash. But after applying lotion, it became so-so. Still doubtful about the Cellnique sebum gel. I look at the mirror and see more blackheads than before. I hope this is temporary. Skin is still very very oily, so putting on Ettusais night powder to reduce and absorb the additional oil.

Notes:

Seaweed Pore Cleansing Facial Exfoliator (aka scrub) to be used 1-2 times per week.
Tea tree mask to be used after cleanser and tea tree oil, leave on 10mins then rinse off. To be used 1-2 times per week.
Suisse Revitalizing Eye Mask, leave on 10mins then rinse off. To be used 2-3 times per week.
